Preface

The time has come that the question is asked of those who are migrating and risk losing their culture and identity. Why do you want to come to America? The question is meant for self-reflection and self-scrutiny. As we embark into the next Gregorian calendar year of 2017 with high and low hopes depending on the individual, there will be some drastic changes as a result of new governmental procedures implemented and new incoming heads and chiefs who have shown a hand that will be sternly against immigration. That's not the intention behind this essay. Many have come to America with nothing to show for it. No savings, no development, and minimal employment. Prior to arrival, they were shown flashes of pomp, glare, stardom, and a society of a free society on TV and movies. The lookers envisioned that it is a must that they embark on the journey to America to satisfy their worldly desires and dreams. "I want to go to America", is a common statement uttered from the mouths of those who live in non-Western civilized societies and has been taught to their children to repeat as well. Their fathers sit in coffee shops and restaurants glorifying how great America and European countries are, even sometimes greater than their own birthplaces. Their mothers are at home watching cable TV mesmerized by the life that appears to be one of security, freedom, glamor and lavishness. The kids are in school being taught that Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, iPhone, and Batman are your new icons of life.
