كان أحمد زكي أبو شادي قامةً أدبيةً شامخةً، جمع بين الطب والشعر، وكان من أبرز رواد مدرسة المهجر التي جددت في الشعر العربي الحديث. أسس مدرسة "أبولّو" التي احتضنت شعراء الرومانسية، وترك إرثًا أدبيًا ضخمًا من دواوين مثل "الشفَق الباكِي" و"أَشِعة الظِّلال" و"فوقَ العُباب"، إضافةً إلى مؤلفات مسرحية مثل "مَسْرحية الآلِهة" و"إخناتون" و"فِرعَون مِصر". رحل أبو شادي في واشنطن عام ١٩٥٥م تاركًا بصمةً واضحةً في تاريخ الأدب العربي.
