Beschreibungen

While many practicing Christians are relatively satisfied with their prayer life, others are not. The latter often find their prayer practice has dried up. Their traditional forms of prayer at churches have become routine and empty. In a very real sense, there is a void in their spiritual lives. They want a deeper union with God yet experience an unsettling estrangement with their current pathway in prayer.
In Contemplative Prayer at Work in Our Lives, Geoff Colvin draws on his own experiences, studies of spiritual literature, and participation in retreats and meditation groups, to unravel the challenging practice of contemplative prayer, a unique form of meditation involving very few words in silence and stillness. Contemplative prayer centers on the fundamental belief that God dwells not only in the world at large but also at the center of our being. This book offers Christians an approach for understanding contemplative prayer followed by hands-on detail for developing and sustaining a practice that hopefully leads to a richer and fuller spiritual journey to union with God.
Geoff Colvin is a retired University of Oregon research associate, instructor, and national educational consultant. He has authored more than sixty publications in the field of education and several more recently on spiritual topics. Presently he devotes his time to reading and writing on spiritual subjects, leading and participating in retreats and meditation groups, and enjoying retirement with his wife Nola and daughter Kylee in Eugene, Oregon.

Contemplative Prayer at Work in Our Lives is a guidebook, and Geoff Colvin is a spiritual cartographer. Drawing on his own experience and longings, Geoff maps the way to our soul; it is not a way that is divorced from our work and relationships, but one that is intertwined with ordinary life. This book is an important resource for anyone seeking a deeper connection with God.”
“Geoff Colvin has captured in one small book the essence of Christian contemplative prayer, asking and answering all the right questions, and making contemplative prayer accessible to the ‘everyday Christian.’ This will be a popular book not only in established contemplative circles, but in church libraries and religion-based book discussion circles. It is a comprehensive guide for anyone starting out or well on their way on the contemplative spiritual journey.”

The book is very readable, engaging, practical, and down to earth for guiding Christians to practice contemplative prayer. This is a great resource for personal application and action. It will be helpful to beginners as well as to those very familiar with contemplative prayer.”
“If you are seeking something more than you are finding in prayers and religious services, this is the book for you! Blending stillness and silence, you are invited to create your own ‘temple’—to rest in the presence of God. The ineffable is explored with applications for the beginner and the seasoned practitioner from all spiritual traditions. This is a wonderful opportunity to go deeper on your journey!”
