In this book—part memoir, part self-help guide designed to shepherd readers from "religion to personal spirituality"—Dispenza, a former Roman Catholic monk, recounts his decades-long search beyond institutional religion. Weaving back and forth between memories of his journey into and out of the monastic life and his subsequent meanderings as a "Seeker" who has embarked on "a sacred quest for spiritual truths," Dispenza uses a wide variety of traditional religious and philosophical sources (Teilhard de Chardin, Aristotle, Jung, Zen meditation) as springboards beyond the trappings of not only traditional Catholicism but any institutionalized form of religion. Dispenza's story will appeal primarily to those spiritual seekers who are not interested in the New Age movement, yet are looking for something substantial outside organized religion. <p><strong>Joseph Dispenza</strong> (San Miguel De Allende, Mexico) lived monastic life for eight years, studying religion and spirituality first-hand in the order of the Congregation of Holy Cross (CSC). After he left monastic life, he worked for social change with a number of humanitarian organizations, including the Center for Social Communications in New York and the Institute for Environmental Response in Toronto. He is the author of <em>Live Better Longer</em>, published by HarperCollins in 1997 and <em>The Way of the Traveler</em>, published (second edition) by Avalon in 2002. He has written on spirituality and natural self-healing in magazines, newspapers, and websites, including <em>Alternative Medicine, American Way, Free Spirit, Magical Blend, Massage Magazine, NewTopia.com</em>, <em>Spirituality and Health, Whole Life Times,</em> and <em>To Your Health,</em> and Beliefnet.com. He is the founder of LifePath Retreats (a guided retreat that leads participants through a dynamic process of moving through obstacles in order to answer the call of living their best life).
