Dharb al-Kalim is a collection of poetry by the poet and philosopher Muhammad Iqbal, in which it deals with deep opinions and views in the fields of religion, education, art, literature, and politics. This work transcends the boundaries of emotion and imagination to delve into the depths of philosophy and thought, demonstrating that every universal truth can express itself poetically if it is drawn with human emotion and images of imagination. The Diwan was written in Urdu, and was translated into Arabic in a distinguished manner by Dr. Abdul Wahab Azzam, who was keen to preserve the spirit and meaning of the work without disturbing its form or content. "Darb Al-Kalim" invites the reader to reflect on the present era, and constitutes a bold declaration to search for truth in a complex world.
محمد إقبال شاعر ومفكر وفيلسوف بارع، نجح في مزج الفلسفة، التي تُعتبر علمًا جافًا، بالشعر، الفن الراقي الجميل، مما جعله قادرًا على التأثير في عقول ووجدان قرائه. وُلِد عام 1873م في مدينة سيالكوت، إحدى مدن إقليم البنجاب في باكستان الحالية، في أسرة ذات أصول تعود إلى براهمة كشمير. كان والده شخصًا صالحًا ومتصوفًا، وقد أثر في إقبال منذ صغره، حيث نصحه بقراءة القرآن بفهم. بدأ تعليمه على يدي أبيه ثم التحق بالكتّاب لحفظ القرآن، تلاه التحاقه بمدرسة البعثة الأسكوتية حيث كان تحت رعاية صديقه مير حسن، الذي كان أستاذًا في الأدب الفارسي. حصل إقبال على درجة الليسانس في اللغتين العربية والإنجليزية ودرجة الماجستير في الفلسفة من الكلية الحكومية في لاهور. سافر إلى أوروبا عام 1905م، وحصل على دكتوراه الفلسفة عام 1908م، ثم اختير لتدريس التاريخ والفلسفة في جامعة لاهور وعمل أستاذًا للغة العربية في جامعة كمبريدج. أسهم إقبال في إثراء الفكر الإسلامي بمؤلفاته النثرية والشعرية، التي كتبها بالفارسية والأردية والإنجليزية، مثل "أسرار خود" و"أرمغان حجاز" (هدية الحجاز). توفي عام 1938م، تاركًا إرثًا أدبيًا وفكريًا غنيًا.
