السير والتر سكوت هو روائي وشاعر اسكتلندي يُعتبر مؤسس الرواية التاريخية في الأدب الإنجليزي. وُلِد عام 1771 في اسكتلندا لعائلة نبيلة، وتعلَّم القراءة والكتابة من عمته التي غذَّت خياله بالقصص والأساطير التاريخية. درس القانون والأدب الإنجليزي بجامعة إدنبره، وبدأ حياته المهنية كمحامٍ، لكنه سرعان ما اتجه للأدب ونشر أعمالًا شعرية وروايات تاريخية، أشهرها "إيفانهو" و"روب روي". اشتهر سكوت بقدرته على المزج بين الواقع والتاريخ في أعماله، ما جعله واحدًا من أبرز أدباء القرن التاسع عشر.
